Been a while since I worked with Jim and his gang (which was an honor and a pleasure) but SoA remains one of my favorite charities. Short version (in my own words): they coordinate donations to micro-charity projects in areas the US military is involved, with the projects being requested by our troops. Simplistic example: A sergeant in Afghanistan observes that the men from a local village are joining the Taliban and shooting at him and his guys because all their farm equipment got wrecked. Solution: buy them some farm equipment so they can (literally) pick up ploughshares as opposed to guns. Check ’em out…

Where to start? a) “factivists” ? Really? Is this the “reality-based community” all growed up? b) What’s wrong with this juxtaposition? “This week, Jeb Bush! will be fundraising in California, where he hopes to demonstrate his commitment to the sharing economy by “hailing” an Uber.” “While Silicon Valley and the rest of the country move forward, Jeb Bush is looking backwards…” c) Is Uber really the best issue the DNC has to work with right now? I seem to remember something about #LoveWinning. And a big law that had something to do with healthcare. And a historic, peace-ensuring Middle East agreement. So, they’re gonna go with picking on a company so dynamic and game-changing that I cannot go more than a day or so without hearing someone pitch some new tech idea as “The Uber of x” ? Alrighty then. d) The Democratic National Committee has established its own “grassroots” rapid response team. They keep using that word. I do not think it means what they think it means. e) Don’t any of these kids know how to play this game…?

As a happily married straight guy, I’m feeling a bit left out. Shouldn’t everyone be allowed one straight AND one gay marriage? Admittedly, I’m totally in it for the gay wedding cake. Mmmm. Cake…

I had thought a film was already happening via traditional routes, but fitting to go this way given that Hugh is the poster guy for successful independent publishing. (And obligatory comment that if you haven’t read Wool, go do so, even if you’re not a major SF genre fan. And the first self-contained story is just that, a short story, so no time excuses.

This is the same test from a month or two back, but new video footage I believe. As said before: damn, missed it by *that* *much*. (I must admit there’s a special thrill in seeing a rocket *descending* on a tail of flame.)

So kinda out of character for me to be the sensitivity police, but this irked me last night given my twitter feed was mostly dominated by (mostly asinine) tweets about the murders in Charleston. And apparently T-Mobile CEO John Legere’s reputation for fast reaction is merited.
Now, @DavidCarey who he cc’d has his description as “Protector of T-Mobile”, so he’s either in charge of getting rid of stupid stuff T-mobile has done on social media… or of getting rid of people who point out stupid stuff T-mobile has done on social media.
If you don’t hear from me after this, we’ll know which…
@rneppell I agree, thank you for pointing it out @DavidCarey
